    Tax Treaty Signed


    Ethiopia and Netherlands signed a tax treaty on 10 August 2012.

    The new treaty will come into force once ratification documents are exchanged by the two countries.

    In accordance with the tax treaty, the following withholding taxes will apply:

    • Dividends:
      • 5% if the receiving company owns at least 10% of the capital of the company paying the dividends.
      • The domestic rate applies for all other cases (i.e. 10% for Ethiopia and 15% for Netherlands).

    • Interest: 5% withholding tax on interest.

    • Royalties: 5% withholding tax on royalties.
