    Tax Treaty Enters Into Force

    On 29 July 2016, the Income Tax Treaty between Hong Kong and Russia entered into force. The Treaty generally applies from 1 January 2017 for Russia and from 1 April 2017 for Hong Kong.

    The Treaty was signed on 18 January 2016.

    In accordance with the treaty, the following withholding taxes will apply:

    • Dividends:
      • 5% if the beneficial owner of the dividend is a company (other than a partnership) which holds directly at least 15% of the capital of the company paying the dividends;
      • 10% in all other cases.
    • Interest: 0%.
    • Royalties: 3%.
